TOM

1980年代後半〜1990年代初頭、大阪を拠点とするハードコア・パンク・シーンにおいて、独自のビジュアルスタイルで注目を集めたイラストレーター。OUTOやS.O.B.（Sabotage Organized Barbarian）など、関西を代表するバンドのジャケット、フライヤー、グッズ用アートワークを数多く手がけ、当時のローカルカルチャーを象徴する存在となる。

手描きの線画を中心に、コミカルでグロテスクなデフォルメ表現を駆使した作品には、キャラクターや怪物、アクション感のある構成が多く見られ、躍動感とユーモアが同居するスタイルが特徴。モノクロを基調としつつ、彩墨やシルクスクリーン風の加工を加えるなど、DIY精神に満ちたヴィジュアルはPUSHEADにも通じるものがある。

代表作としては、OUTOの「正直者は馬鹿を見る」シリーズのTシャツやLPジャケット、S.O.B.初期〜中期のビジュアル制作（ジャケット、フライヤー、ツアーグッズ）などがあり、その他にもLip CreamやGISM、舞踏家・麿赤児のイベントビジュアルなど、ジャンルを超えた表現を展開。

当時のライブ告知やレコードジャケットなど、現場性の高い用途に使われたため作品の現存数は少なく、現在ではコレクターからも高く評価される貴重な資料となっている。

Active in the late 1980s to early 1990s, TOM is a legendary illustrator known for his contributions to the hardcore punk scene centered around Osaka, Japan. He is best known for his artwork for bands such as OUTO and S.O.B. (Sabotage Organized Barbarian), creating numerous illustrations for record jackets, flyers, and merchandise that vividly captured the spirit of the local DIY culture.

His work is characterized by bold hand-drawn line art with grotesque yet comical distortions. Often featuring monsters, eccentric characters, and dynamic compositions, his illustrations combine raw energy with dark humor. While primarily monochrome, his pieces sometimes incorporate color ink or screen print-style effects, emphasizing an impactful and chaotic DIY aesthetic.

TOM’s visual style has been likened to that of Pushead (noted for his artwork for Septic Death), positioning him as a visual icon within Kansai’s hardcore punk movement.

Notable works include:

• OUTO: Artwork for the “Only Stupid Answer” series, including live flyers, T-shirts, and LP jackets
• S.O.B.: Visuals from the early to mid-period, covering album art, flyers, and tour merchandise
• Others: Collaborations with Lip Cream, GISM, and even stage visuals for butoh dancer Akaji Maro

Many of his original works were produced in small quantities for live shows and underground releases, making them rare and highly sought after among collectors today.
